36C Opel Diplomat with grey engine question.

so whats the deal with the grey engines...is it a little less common...hard to find or rare...its like a mix of all three...i have one...and i repainted another...as i read that its nothing special years ago...then i read someones grail was a grey engine model with paint under the bonnet

so whats the deal?
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Hi Dan, I can only go on my own experience but I found the grey was a little tricky to find but not difficult, they do pop up on ebay sometimes. I also found the one in the middle which is dark, not sure what's going on with it, maybe a malfunction with the plating or some contamination? Because the engine is usually hidden, it's difficult to know how many greys are really out there.

yeah John i remember that pick with the in between chrome/not chrome engine...i looked yesterday on ebay and found a could grey engine models...so at this particular time i dont think they are hard to find

Hi Dan,

I've found very few of these - seems to be impossible here in NZ - I've opened up countless bonnets to check in the past five years and haven't seen one. The last I found was in London, but I elected not to purchase it as it was too expensive (the chap selling it claimed it was very rare, while I believed it was merely slightly less common). Now I wish I'd bought it!

Speaking of HARD to FIND, the sea green/turquoise Opel Diplomat is listed in most reference guides with the grey engine also. I certainly don't have one to check on this element ........................... ! :(

i painted my own using a model that had a grey engine...i asked if the grey engine was anything more than common...i was informed wrong...oh well...i have a minty one so its not too bad
