Is that really a custom model, trying to make it look like a rare version?

I think if ''wolfie'' can not aquire a genuine example but feels keen to create a replica for his own use I don't see a real problem providing of course, this replica does not then pass into the collectors community, which it won't will it wolfie...

As you know i make custom models or models like the rare versions for people who cant afford the real deal.
I never make them look perfect nor do i try and pass them are originals or hide them in job lots hoping people wont ask and take a chance.
I have had a few people ask can i do them one (people ho buy from my ebay) so was wondering where i could get the wheels thats all.
i can look trough all my books or nicks site but thort this would be quicker thanks

I've made a few of these from beaters. The tow hitch is always missing and has to be repaired/replaced. The best way to get the correct wheels is to use the same wheels the model came with. In other words, turn the black wheels into gray wheels.

Thanks. I've made a couple new tow hooks using wire, but that's a lot of work. I started using the white metal triangular replacement hooks (made by Steve Flowers) that were designed for use on sedans. Just attach at the right place using epoxy and you are done. They look good once the model is painted (are very functional) and keep the item looking slightly different from the original (thus decreasing chances someone will try to use the model for fraud).wolfie wrote:WOW....

The wheels are indeed painted and once the model is assembled, they look quite nice sitting on display.

Wolfie, I received and answered your PM. Feel free to ask such questions here on the forum as it may be of interest to others and you may also get some other opinions/options from other members.
With regard to new axles:
If I want to use brand new axles for a particular reason: I use 1/16" aluminum tubing, cut to fit and plug the ends with pin heads. The customized "ESSO" Mercedes truck has new axles made with the 1/16" tubing and some pin heads used to cap off the tubing and hold on the wheels.
The axles were so bad on the Radio Truck that I had to cut them off and soak them in a mild acid in order to get the wheels off without damaging them. Finished job is same as above with new axles with tubing and pins.
