What a cracking model John, I would love one in that condition.

Thanks Jason, this was another one tucked away in a poor photo on ebay. I've got a few with gpw and they're all playworn so It's nice to tick this one off finally.

My latest little acquisition, still diecast but with a splash of tinplate :)

'Pocketoy' by Wells Brimtoy. One of those companies with so many configurations of their name due to mergers etc.

Interesting piece JB. Do ya thing the wheels were original red and have faded to pink over the years ?

Spot on Ghosty (pardon the pun). They went through numerous identites in their history. I did read that they moved from Hackney/Walthamstow and ended up in Anglesey Wales before disappearing in the late 1960s or 1970s. Don't know if that's accurate.

I liked this model because unlike a lot of the Brimtoy models which are plastic/tinplate this one has a diecast body and is more Dinky scale (plus it was cheap). The wheels are pink inside and out, so I don't know if they have faded, it's possible though. Pink does seem an unusual colour of choice if they are original, but I can't see another online to compare. I'll have to search a bit more.

For the benefit of clarity I will use Wells-Brimtoy as that seems to be known as the company name by most collectors.

The Wells company was started in 1919 by Alfred Wells and can be identified with a Wells o' London logo which shows two wishing wells.

Brimtoy morphed out of the old British Metal and Toy Manufacturers company in 1923 and is a lose contraction of that name to make Brimtoy. They devised a logo that shows Nelson's column to let buyers know the Britishness of their toys!

1932 saw the two companies merge to create Wells-Brimtoy.

Toy production ceases during the 1960's as they turn to engineering commisions.

The Anglesey factory were not manufacturing toys, so essentially Wells-Brimtoy just populated the London suburbs.

Please don't ask me to expand on the above 'Abridged' history or we'll be here all day!!

Couldn't pass this up at 99p even though the condition isn't the best. The stand is metal hence the chipping.

This particular gift item was often used as a promotional item. I had a few different examples in my former giftware collection. The phone numbers are always interesting as they serve to date the advert due to the amount of digits in them.
