"Mint & Boxed" Book

Post by Idris »

Those of us who have collecting since the 1980s will know the story of Jeffrey Levitt's "Mint & Boxed" enterprise. (I remember standing in the queue for I think it must have been Windsor with Jeffrey.) However, I see he also published a book called "The World of Antique Toys".
Does any Member have a copy and, if so, is it worth getting?

Given what we now know about him I would not want to pay much over a tenner for a copy and as far as I know it is not much more than just a very thick version of one of the regular Mint & Boxed catalogues, several of which I have. There was even a price list of each item featured through the book placed in a sleeve at the back!

Might be worth sourcing one out of curiosity!

Hello Hugh,

Before you buy the book you may want to look at the contents and you can do this by going to the following link and either previewing the book or downloading as a pdf for free.
From the headers open The Book and scroll down past first two colour plates to see download pdf.
It is 88Meg file and is a handy reference.
While it is not a top quality digital scan of the book , as the actual book has many double page colour plates one can’t complain about the price. :D

Alternatively if you have won lotto lately you can buy a copy free post for 225euro.

Interestingly the cover shows the title as being written by Jeffrey S. Levy as apposed to Jeffrey S. Levitt which I came across years ago.

Here is another useful link

Hope that helps.

Thanks for those links, Bert. I've downloaded and saved a copy.
Looking at the news reports of the time, Jeffrey seems to have had a rather fluid surname. It's interesting to note that Jeffrey's biography has a long gap between 1990 and 1998!

What could he have been doing during those 8 years? Did he have any hobbies that might have occupied him for years or something like that? Or maybe an illness?
