Matchbox Lesney Ford prefect pale blue original.......??

Post by wolfie »

Hi there peeps.

I got a Lesney ford prefect and it is in the rare pale blue body version.

I have looked over the car and the paint looks perfect few chips here and there and some minor signs of wear to me all looks original but the rivet have been what looks flattened............

What do you guy think if you think it looks original also what would you flatten the rivet maybe a lose base???

When you can, have a look in here...viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21&start=20#p2467 It takes you to page 3 which is about rezing but you can read all of it by clicking onto page 1 and start at the begining as it is all interesting stuff to do with posting pictures etc.

Given the combination of metal wheels and a very, very flat baseplate rivet, I would suggest that this is either a repaint or, just possibly, a genuine pale blue bodied married with the baseplate from an earlier version of the model.

That was my thought too. The small rear section of the baseplate is quite often broken off on these models, so perhaps it is a home-made repair job.

I’m concerned about that flattened, splayed out rear rivet. It shows no traces of blue paint in the core. I’m also wondering what is up with the rear bumper silver finish. It seems excessive. The jury is still out in my opinion on the authenticity of a blue Prefect so long after GPW’s came along.

I would say so Numi. All described as restored when in fact they should be called FAKES - pure and simple.

I think the English language is more nuanced than that.
You can only restore something to what it once was. If you turn it into something it never was (by, for instance, changing the colour), that is no longer a restoration. If there is no intention to deceive and the item is clearly marked/marketed as being non-original, then it is a reproduction. However, on the other hand, if the item has been created to deceive, then it is a fake, irrespective of whether monetary gain is involved or not.
