I'm not at home at the moment and so am unable to check my example. However, all the genuine ones I have seen only have a poor covering on the inside of the door - a bit more than purely overspray, but well short of a complete covering.

Can you remember where it came from? There do seem to be quite a few fakes around. It would be good to see pictures of the door from both sides and the tow loop too.

As Glenn points out, the towing eye is the first thing to check since fakers do not always use the correct casting. Also look for thinning of the baseplate paint on the raised faces of the baseplate text: fakers tend to use thinner paint than Lesney with the result that it drains off the letters before it sets.
