Shepton Mallet today
Shepton Mallet today
Worth the drive - here's what I acquired. While most are quite worn, a few are very good. There was a pretty good choice of Matchbox and prices were generally very reasonable, with many sellers mixing rare and common models and then selling at a fixed price - £3.50 by one seller, or 2 for £3 from another. The most expensive item here was marked at £12 but I paid less. Can you guess which it is? There are a few other good items here: what can you see?

I think it was the 3a Cement mixer.DrJeep wrote:The most expensive item here was marked at £12 but I paid less.
Nice models - what is the orange one behind the Greyhound bus?

Re: Shepton Mallet today
No! The cement mixer was £3. It’s complete but with a bit of paint loss on the wheels.Malibu wrote:I think it was the 3a Cement mixer.

The orange car is a Benbros Hudson tourer, in excellent condition with just one small paint chip. It’s the rarer version with silver plastic wheels. I also have another in orange with black plastic wheels, one in cream, and two of the military version, which is the same but dark green.

Hi,
I can see a 32 Tanker with white base and the 41 D-type with no. 5 decals (are they genuine, because the jag is very playworn?), the Greyhound with clear windows.
A quite nice lot.
Is the 29 Bedford a repaint?

Good spotting! The tanker does have the white base, but unfortunately the ends of the bumpers are broken.SuperFast wrote:Hi,

I think the D-type is genuine but I’ll post a closer picture to get your opinions. This was the most expensive thing I bought, at about £10.
The Bedford milk float is another Benbros, though generally thought to be a direct copy of the Matchbox. This one has tiny white painted wheels, which I think makes it an unlisted variation.

some close-up pictures. I think it's good, but I'd welcome your opinions.SuperFast wrote:the 41 D-type with no. 5 decals (are they genuine, because the jag is very playworn?)

Re: Shepton Mallet today
and here's the Benbros Bedford with the Matchbox equivalent. These tiny wheels were later replaced by larger white painted wheels. The small-wheeled version is listed as red, but this one is definitely orange, which in my opinion is more attractive than the pink-tan of the Matchbox.

Re: Shepton Mallet today
Thanks DrJeep, looks good to me and I think the conditions of the decals match with the body but I'm not a Regular Wheel Professor.
The two Bedfords side by side look interesting too, did Benbros use the same tools or parts of it?

A nice little haul there Glenn. Are the Alvis's smooth bed versions?
John
There's nothing regular about wheels

Re: Shepton Mallet today
Yes, all three of them, with 7 tyres between them. I will check for casting differences but I think it means I’ve got a few spares if anyone needs one - they’re all fairly poor but better than not having one.johnboy wrote:Are the Alvis's smooth bed versions?
