And a really nice Car Carrier and Trailer, Trailer is boxed too which is a winner, this was one of my faves as a kid, but mine was 20 years old already and beat up pretty badly, so it's good to get a decent one.........

Beautiful items Chris. It looks like your Bedford Tipper has the smooth pre-war hubs on the front of it so I suspect it was made just after 1945. It is in fabulous condition anyway and a great find. The 985 Car Carrier is a very nice set to get and one that is still on my wants list. Excellent additions to a collection.

This is the first time I've heard about the hubs as a pre-war/post-war identification marker. I'm pretty sure that I've previously been told that the axle thickness was the best indication of build date.
Could we please have some more information on this point? (Probably the best thing to do would be to start a new thread looking at pre-war/post-war differences. Any volunteers?)

The Bedford end tipper was first produced in 1948, so any reference to pre-war hubs is a bit of a red herring.
It is not uncommon to find smooth hubs and also a mixture of smooth hubs and ridged hubs on post war Dinky models.
The yellow with blue back versions of this tipper were produced much later than 1948.
Thin axles is the best way to differentiate between pre and post war models.
Pre-war axles have a diameter of .062in, whereas post war axles measure .078in.
