Thank you Stephan.
There are quite a lot of these in this colour in various collections. The only other known colour on a 'Pre-Pro' is a steel grey (called Dusk Grey by Lesney in December 1969), the intended production colour, but changed to the lime green over dark brown for actual full production.

That's a really nice find, and at a bargain price! I can really appreciate the interest in pre-production items like this, as they give a fascinating insight into the production history and technical issues of the toys we collect. I am sure this must have been covered in another thread before, but what kind of quantity would have been made for a test run like this?

Hi Jason.
It is difficult to say for sure how many would have been produced, but there are around 12 examples rolling around (excuse the pun!), the collecting community I am aware of and as they are built with all intended components, with pressed down base rivets, they have been built on the normal flow line machines, so at a guess one batch of models are likely to have been made like this, allowing examples to be handed around all the members of the sales team and the new products committee at their monthly meeting, no less than a couple of dozen and no more than a hundred.

For these 2nd series models, the numbers are quite low as Kevin says. Later on judging by the amount we see, the runs must have been considerably bigger. I'm guessing 200 plus, and by then the workers knew they were worth money so more have survived because they were removed from the factory before they could be recycled!

It certainly is John, all the local newspapers and radio reporters turned up on my door step the next day wanting interviews, so I sent Marmaduke out to see them and tell them my interview fees and they all said they would get back to me on that!johnboy wrote:It must be something special when you add to your collection Ghosty, congratulations
