Yesteryear colour help

Post by nearlymint »

Before I dismiss these as repaints (which they probably are)does any one recognise the colours used?, Spykers are not early bases either and the axle ends are poor but the paint job is really good, models did come with some unpressed models so may have been a factory worker I suppose and the axles fitted at home. The rolls is particularly good as it is the giftware version and looks good like this.

The green is the same as the 1st issue Simplex by the look of it. As you say all the castings are standard, and I agree that they are probably a worker's pieces of homework. Giftware castings have been seen painted, but usually retaining their brass bits (headlights/screens etc.). I had an acrylic green Maxwell with columns (which I foolishly sold to the MICA Mafia as I didn't collect giftware or prepros or trials in those days), and have seen a blue Y10 Mercedes giftware model with columns also.

Thanks for the reply Bob, another little group to store away. Was the Y10 blue similar to the one I show above on the Rolls Royce . j

Rolls blue was usually a horrible flat blue not gloss paint. Check the Spyker bases to see if any have the round 'O' instead of the more normal '0' in the base description. Interesting that the Rolls has the columns cast in so made to be plated.
