I picked this Superfast Store Display up at an auction a month or so ago for a song as it was ridiculously dirty, expecting to use it for parts for my regular wheels display but found that the insert color is white instead of cream! so now I need to decide what to do with it.
I am not very knowledgeable about Superfast, as my main collecting areas are MOY and Regular wheels, so I need some help on this.
The labeling says Superfast Rola-matics Streakers on it.
Q. I know Superfast came after the Regular wheels, but where does the Rola-matics and Streakers come in from a date perspective.
When I look at the box labeling for superfast, most of what I see are just "Superfast" , I see some "Superfast Rola-matics" and some "Superfast Streakers" but I do not see any boxes with "Superfast Rola-Matics Streakers".
Q. So what cars are supposed to be in this display?
I am trying to decide if I can easily get the cars with boxes, or just the cars to go in this , as I come across them with my normal collection car hunts or is this a specialized hunt!

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
Welcome to the forum mcornes. I'm no Superfast expert myself, but here is the information that I have. (i'm sure i will be corrected by one of the Superfast experts if i am mistaken, we do have a few around here )
The Rolamatic's were in the range from 1973-1985
List of the models with pictures can be found here
http://matchbox.wikia.com/wiki/Rolamatics
The Streakers were in the range for only two years 1975-1976
and there are 10 models.
The 1975 the models included
#40 Vauxhall Guildsman
#41 Siva Spyder
#7 Hairy Hustler #
#66 Mazda RX500
#51 Citroen SM
and for 1976 the releases were
#27 Lamborghini Countach
#33 Datsun 126X
# 53 Tanzara
# 60 Lotus Super Seven
# 75 Alfa Carabo

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
Thanks - but still confused as the Rolamatics list is only 14 cars, and the Streakers are 10 cars it seems like a catchall display.
Was there a Standard display set that was supposed to be used with this then?

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
It is worthy of note that the art work at the top of the display features the SF#14 Mini HaHa and the SF#34 Vantastic both issued in 1975. So clearly this display was not just for the streakers range, but was meant to include the standard Superfast range that was in production at the time in addition to the streakers rangemcornes wrote:Thanks - but still confused as the Rolamatics list is only 14 cars, and the Streakers are 10 cars it seems like a catchall display.

Matchbox introduced new Tampo printing technique for the Streakers range of 10 models.

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
I would suggest that the small streakers panel on the display may have been there purely to promote the range rather than suggesting the display was exclusively for the streakers range.

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
So fill it with rolamics and streaker models and then superfast for the rest?

Personally speaking I would be filling it with Superfastmcornes wrote:So fill it with rolamics and streaker models and then superfast for the rest?

Re: Superfast History Lesson Needed
This would be my opinion too Al and when I had one of these display units I filled it with standard SF from the time period...these rotating display units would have sat on counter tops in toy shops and as so would have been used to promote new additions to the range such as Streakers.motorman wrote:I would suggest that the small streakers panel on the display may have been there purely to promote the range rather than suggesting the display was exclusively for the streakers range.
