Caravans

Post by Diecast »

It's summertime, it's time to go with a caravan on the road for holiday :D . I remember when I was a little kid and my friend had Cadillac (27c) with Caravan Bluebird(23c), how I was envious of his models. It was an great honor for me, when he lent me for a while his Caddy with the caravan. I think it was a good idea by Lesney to introduced a caravan in the production, because everybody wanted to combine their models with this caravan.

Here are a few sample of the caravan:

23b metallic lime-green with GPW ø9x20
23c metallic lime-green with GPW ø9x20
23c metallic mauve, black door, maroon base plate, with GPW ø9x20
23c metallic mauve with BPW ø9x36
23d lemon with GPW ø8x18

Which model, do you think, is the most rare one?

Antonin,
A very impressive group of caravans indeed -- especially all being in such nice condition!
The degree of rarity is a very tough call, certainly in my view the yellow 23D w/ GPW, the 23C with black door and crimson base, and the 23B with the metallic green paint are all VERY hard to find and seldom seen. The metallic green 23B has been very elusive in my experience (maybe more so in the USA) and I believe it was only issued in gift sets. I have never seen the gift set with it included live so perhaps a member has one and can post a photo?? I acquired a loose model several years ago (@ the MB Collectors event in Albuquerque) and it certainly has some play wear but I'm happy to have it in my collection!

George,
Some very nice models shown -- indeed!
Good luck in finding the metallic green 23b -- it really seems to be a tough one to find. :(

I did once come across 2 Gift Sets that contained 23B’s in Metallic Lime Green. They were ex shop stock and appeared not to be handled much in 40 years at the time. I think that in terms of rarity the 23D with the small GPW’s as others have opined is at the top.

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.
