Thanks, I don't collect as many pre-war items as I used to but it would be nice to get the full 33r railway set; the Southern Railway one is the hardest to find. Not sure whether you have noticed the difference in size between the LNER and Southern tractors, which is due to a lot of fatigue in the LNER version, so this may not last forever. The back of the trailer is made of tinplate and I guess it would be fairly easy for one to be folded the wrong way round in production leading to the error you mentioned.

I can just about remember RT buses in London in the 1970s which looked very similar to the Dinky version although can't recall ever seeing one without a drivers door. I do like the staircase and roof variations on the pre-war Dinky. I guess the removal of these features was an early example of cost cutting.

Some nice variations, when it comes to paint / hub differences I wonder how much was down to planned look changes and how much it was due to what supplies were available at the time? Looking at the rear view, your 2 examples on the left have the tow hook coordinated in colour with the wheel hub so I would think this was a planned variation.

A small update to one of my previous posts I received another Aston Martin DB5 recently, I bought it to replace my "D" suffix version as the new one is in MB condition apart from a missing front number plate. On closer inspection however there are some differences between this and the one I already have making it another variation, and meaning I will have to keep them both :) ......

....the registration number is different and it has a white instead of black steering wheel.....

... the big difference is however in the base plate, the one at the top is the oldest ("C" suffix) and has a model number shown but no retaining holes for the plastic box. The middle one is the latest addition which has closed retaining holes with a pin in the middle, the model number is still there and the back part of the base remains open for towing.

The bottom one is the newest and must have been made after the DB6 model came out. The box retaining holes are now open, the model number is covered and the towing aperture is filled with the tab for mounting to the DB6 body.

As I don't have a later example with molded rear lights were there any further revisions to the base?

This is what makes collecting such fun, finding those variations to add to the collection but rather annoying when you think yo can not possily find any more and just when you think you have the lot, another variation turns up.

I have recorded 40 versions of the #152 Rolls-Royce Phantom V, not including the 'Action Kit' or the facelifted #124 versions and I am still finding models not in my files!

Yes, I agree, I think is would be very difficult to say that you have found all variations of a particular model and for this reason the title of this thread is possibly a little misleading. The problem is also compounded by examples made / finished overseas eg South Africa, Spain or India. I'm sure I was reading somewhere that some late 60s early 70s castings were finished locally for sale in Peru or Argentina, probably not too easy to find any of those variations! I tend to stick to finding the main colour/ feature differences of the English or French made models but there are often undocumented versions that come to light.

From memory, as they are packed away at the moment, I only have 3 variations of the RR Phantom V

1. Early 60s matt black base with wing mirrors
2. Early 70s bright blue base
3. Late 70s light blue 124 model without opening rear doors

I would be interested to see pictures of your other 37 variations?

I do intend bringing as many as possible to the forum as soon as I can get pictures of them.

Continental Coaches - 1 restored and 2 original. I have another mint boxed example somewhere or the orange school bus. This version has either Red or black stripes on the side.

Image

Jones Fleetmaster Cranes - Also comes in Metallic Red but haven't located a good one of this colour yet.

Image

Finally very rare Austion Champ UN version with a standard one.

Image

UN Version is late production with plastic wheels.

Image

I've seen many repainted (fakes) being sold but the real one dont have holes in the seats. Any white version with holes you come across give them a miss they're repaints...

Image

Will dig out more when I get time.

The Austin Champ UN version looks a rare find was it sold in certain markets only and is it the only version without passengers? I can only see the green version in the 1960,61 and 63 UK catalogues.
