All sorts Mainly Regular Wheels
All sorts Mainly Regular Wheels
Casually surfing our local auction site on a lazy Sunday morning and I came across a bulk Diecast listing opening bid was $5.00. I saw the Dinky and Corgi plus the Fire Station so made an offer of just over 50 quid, set up auto buynow and thought no more about it. an hour later the seller accepted my offer listed a buynow and my auction software snapped it up. Single auction photo didn't do the lot justice. Seller only lived 4 kilometres away so pretty much instant pick up....
Lot weighs 10kg and came with a 1970's period Reidrubber / Kelloggs paper play mat.
Photo's of initial sorting follow:
Varying levels of condition from poor to fair, maybe 3-4 are missing axles / tyres. I've got spare tyres for most so will spend some time making them complete as possible.
Fire Station is missing 3 of its 4 corners as well as the doors but will clean up reasonably well.
Container also contains a few later Matchbox, some Corgi Juniors and Husky models as well as quite a few generic modern vehicles.
I don't know the history behind these but due to the amount of double ups I'd suggest they belonged to two brothers.
More photo's once I'm done researching or upon request.
Cheers
Dave

Nice find Dave, the Matchbox garage is worth having in any condition and with a bit of careful restoration and attention to those roof corners you'll have yourself a nice item.

Looks like a great pick-up. I'm amazed the 16C has a mostly intact decal! The metal-wheeled K6A is a model I'd like to have. Your example looks to be missing its springs, though...are those easily replaced? I'd like to see more photos, but I'll wait till you're done sorting.

What a great find! I really like lots like this, as there are invariably some interesting variations, even if there’s nothing especially valuable. I see a couple of VW beetles - it would be great if they had the misspelled “Volkswagon” base and black engines. The pale blue Lincoln must be a repaint, but one of the Rolls Royces looks silver. I’ll look forward to seeing what you discover. I got my BPW roof-cross 14c ambulance and fine tread GPW Rentaset Commer in a single collection like this that belonged to one owner from new. I hope you’re as fortunate with these!

Pure Timing Rodger, I just happened to be looking at the right time....tractorboy wrote:Well done Dave - not sure how I missed that one

Now you Matchbox guys will need to humour me, I collect Dinky Toys predominantly, so if you want further detailed photo's can you please use the model name rather than the numeric / Alpha variation code.
I have uploaded 200 odd close up images (from 2 angles) of all the items to the gallery at the link below:

Individual photo's of items mentioned above or ones I particularly like or which are in reasonable condition follow:

The 25C Bedford Petrol Tanker you have picked up in this lot is the uncommon silver mask painted grill type that was an early variation of this model. When the cab is flipped up on this model with this silver grill, a very lucky Lesney collector may even find that the rear cab wall is the VERY EARLY thin casting which was very quickly modified at the factory. That Cab die was altered early in this Tanker's production to double the rear wall's thickness for some unknown reason. We discussed this thin rear wall years ago on the Forum, but no action was ever taken to update Nick's online guide to include this rare first casting of the 25C Bedford. I know at least one shipment of these early thin cab Tankers was shipped to East Germany without the factory "Capitalistic Western" BP decals installed. I was told East Germany would not allow Western companies' advertising on any toys, so any models shipped there had no decals applied to them right from the Lesney factory. I found a Mint silver grilled Tanker on EBay Germany years ago without decals, (Bought from an East German Seller), so bought it for our collection as a known variation/oddity. Much to my surprise when that model arrived, I found it had that rare early thin rear cab wall we had discussed here on the Forum. In the 5+ years since finding that Tanker, we have never found a thin rear wall 32C with a decal on it. Your model may just be one of those early releases Dave........ Cheers! Kwakers

Great grouping of models...I see a lot of my favorites in there! The 4C Triumph motorcycle with intact handlebars alone made the purchase worthwhile. Does the 71B Jeep Gladiator with white interior have 10x36 or 11x45 wheels?

Re: All sorts Mainly Regular Wheels
To help Dave with Squid's wheel queery, if he can just post photos of each wheel and some of the wheel-arch it should be possible to work out the wheel diameter (10 or 11, the first number) and then we should be able to count the treads (36 or 45, the second number), unless Dave is the secret Matchbox collector/expert we all know he really is and knows about tread counts...

A side-by-side comparison should work, too. All 71B Jeep Gladiators with green interiors, to my knowledge, have the 11x45 wheels. If the model with the white interior is very slightly lower than its counterpart with the green interior, then it has 10x36 wheels. If they're at the same height, then the model with the white interior either has 11x45 wheels (awfully hard to tell, but that seems to be the case here) or Dave has found a new, unlisted variation.GHOSTHUNTER wrote:To help Dave with Squid's wheel queery...
