1b Road Roller

Post by Idris »

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) states that the model comes in both light and dark green. (My guess would that that this is the result of a misidentification of a 1c during cataloguing.)
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) lists the driver as being either light or dark tan (see below).
None of Stannard, Houghton, or Leake ("Concise Catalogue of 75 Series Matchbox Toys by Lesney" (4th edition, reprinted 2006)) lists any variation not already catalogued by Nick.
U.K. Matchbox examined the model in Vol. 3 no. 4 (Jun. '79) p66, confirming AIM's driver colour observation. Furthermore, the suggestion is made that gold trim was dropped at the end of the model's life (which is plausible given that the 1c is untrimmed). As a result, three variations are listed: dark tan driver/gold trim, light tan driver/gold trim, and light tan driver/no trim.

Any chance of a comparison shot in normal daylight, Antonin? (That pale green looks very pale indeed!)

I think, on the daylight it appears much more pale, Hugh.

Not only that, it also seems to have red rather than orange-red rollers
