22b Cresta
22b Cresta
Hi all
I used to post here on occasion a few years ago, but have recently been busy, and have mostly used the collecting time I could find to create a little stash of older Tomica - I haven't done much with Matchbox. Anyway, this morning I went to an estate sale near where I live, and found a few nice castings, including one I think might be a rarity. You can probably see the one I mean - the Cresta at far left, does this look good for a pink/creme over sea green variety?
It has a little wear, but is presentable and will look nice with my others. I also lucked upon two other 22b at this sale, along with the red Jag and some other castings not pictured.
Maybe this is the year to get back into Matchbox.

The sea-green/pink Cresta looks to be very good indeed!
Re: 22b Cresta
Thanks for the confirmation. The car was in a pile of others in a 1966 issue case, pictured in an ad for an estate sale. I saw it online, thought it might be something, checked on Nick's reference page, and was amazed. I was even more surprised when I attended the sale (arrived early, I was first in line) and found two more Crestas. Like everyone else, I love this casting, and I am thrilled to have found something of a rarity, in the wild. This was apparently a childhood collection stored away for 50 years.
There were a few dozen loose RW cars at the sale, mostly common to my eyes as an intermediate collector, but I found a few oddballs in the lot. Here's the rest of the group (I also bought the case, it is pretty immaculate, and for $12, I couldn't leave it there). Somewhat uncommon models include black wheels 35a, Players Please 5b, grey wheels 40b, black wheels 42a. I picked up the Impala, police car, and sugar container just because I like them, and the Snow-Cat box is empty, and those are always useful. The models are mostly pretty excellent, the brown over sea green Cresta having just a bit of wear:

Re: 22b Cresta
I hear a very happy collector on this forum and no wonder why, an absolute steal for all those really good looking models and a decent case to keep them in...

Thanks all. These aren't minty perfect, and I didn't steal them for normal yard sale prices (the pseudo-antique dealers who run sales here sometimes have weird ideas about pricing), but beggars can't be choosers, and sometimes the time to buy it is when you see it. 22b Crestas don't grow on trees

Welcome back fintail.
It sounds like you have had a great Matchbox weekend with the buy of a lifetime or at least the buy of the year!
Several beautiful models including that rarity in great condition for $12!
Enjoy!
