Y3 Riley metal wheels.
Y3 Riley metal wheels.
Looks much better with these wheels from the Y2 Vauxhall, Y8 Sunbeam & Y13 Daimler. Plastic versions of these wheels were made (usually in red), but lacked sufficient strength.

Re: Y3 Riley metal wheels.
I agree. I wish the Riley, Duesenberg, Crossley etc had been released with metal spoked wheels.
Over the years I have found that I really like the second generation models with the metal brass finish spoked wheels the best, and the Bugatti, Mercer and other earlier cars are fantastic as well. However I know the 1970's era was direct competition to Hot Wheels so Lesney had to compete any way they could.
Another thing I have come to appreciate is the metal headlights, grills, windscreen frames and bumpers that went with the earlier models (even the Stutz and the Crossley). From the Riley onwards the use of plastic for these components is a let-down.
