Are you sure this topic has the correct title?
Re: Matchbox #17
Hi sorry not sure just asking a question if it's in the wrong place I can remove it I am just going through a collection trying to make some sort of record what there but know nothing about model car collecting may be I should just bag them up and stick them in the loft don't want to upset anyone
Thanks Steve
Thanks Steve
Re: Very large collection
What a task you have if all those bags and boxes are full of models. This is hording rather than collecting, and as such I don't envy you your job trying to sort it all.

Re: Matchbox #17
Steve, with the title displayed as Matchbox #17 members will expect to read and or see something to do with that model, so we think it is misleading when as your question does not relate directly to a model numbered 17.
If you have come across models labelled as 'Mattel Wheels', it sounds like these are not directly connected to Matchbox models and will be part of the 'Hot Wheels' product line so for now I would bag them up safely and place in storage.
I would also try and concentrate on making the areas you mention in another thread, clear and safe for that Gentleman to be comfortable while downstairs. Later you can bring to the forum what you have discovered as so far it looks to be a very interesting collection he has amassed.

Re: Matchbox #17
The term "Mattel Wheels" was introduced by Mattel in 1998, i.e. after the Matchbox takeover, to denote the division of the company which dealt with wheeled toys, i.e. Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Tyco (slot-racing sets).
This term was found on many types of packaging of all three brands at the time. On Matchbox packaging it was used until 2004. Thereafter it was quietly discontinued, which may have coincided with a change of policy in order to set the two brands Hot Wheels and Matchbox further apart from each other.
As the question seems to refer to the Matchbox Miniatures made during that time period 1998 to 2004, I would say most of those are probably of not much interest, certainly not to most of the visitors to this message board, who tend to concentrate on models made in earlier times.
Interesting short-run variations have occurred at all times, but the vast majority of the Matchbox Miniatures from that era have not appreciated much in so-called "value" beyond their original cost of approximately one dollar, pound or euro each.
