Antonin, you forgot to mention that your A Tipper in the dumping comparison photo has a driver WITHOUT A HAT, and it has that same angled steering column that is on Bob Brennen's model shown earlier and described and listed in his 1973 NAMC variation Guide. (North American Matchbox Collectors "Club") Being that you have one in your collection, and Bob also listed it as a variation in 1973, I would say quite a few 2B Tippers may have left the factory with this same driver as the 39A. Because these drivers can be easily switched by anyone at any time, they are really just a curiosity or an "error" that we can enjoy as such with no added or lessened value to the Toy at all.
Very interesting on that last unknown tipper stop Antonin. The full size Tippers of this style (I have seen only in pictures) seem to dump all the way as on your "A" Dump shown. Why the stop so late in this model's life?? Very Interesting, Thanks for all these extra details..... :) Dick

It's certainly beginning to look that way.

Sorry Dick, I am an old sclerotic man  , I have forgotten it. It should be:
a) driver with straight hands, no infill between arms and legs
b) driver with straight hands, with infill between arms and legs
c) driver with "V" hands, with infill between arms and legs
d) driver without hat (from #39a)

I think, we are witnesses when the idea of limiting movement of the bucket was born. There was an attempt to simply modify the mold to limit the movement of the bucket. Interestingly, the first 2c models also have no tipper stop. This means that the idea of the tipper stop was probably realized after the start of production 2c. Perhaps it was decided to make a small batch of 2b to test it. Perhaps there is an analogy with 75a, where the roof rack was also tested after termination of the production.
