I have just checked this in my own collection and noticed the difference between some examples there too, from the gold up to the orange narrow wheel versions.

I have a question about the Tanzara hiding at the back (I really don't know anything about Superfast except for the transitionals). It has an unplated base and I think bigger wheels than on Christian's listing - 10.5 x 6 at the front and 12.5 x 7.5 at the back. Or is this in the normal range for Superfast wheels?

I think these are the normal sizes of maltese cross wheels - measurements in my listings are to be taken as approximate only.

There are only three different sizes of maltese cross wheels (without tread) which were ever used on MB Miniatures, as far as I know. The two smaller ones of those are found on the Tanzara. The largest is much larger - approximately 16mm diameter and used for example on the rear axles of the Big Banger and Pi-Eyed Piper.

The unplated appearance of the base may be due to wear.

Thank you - this is really helpful information, and I can confirm that the Tanzara wheels are the same size as on the 44 Mustang. I'm sorry for asking stupid questions.

I think you're right. There's a silver area around the exhausts that's much more obvious in this picture than in the hand. There's also a fairly serious casting defect (bottom of the picture) so perhaps this was just a reject.
