Lone Star Treble 0 Trains.

Post by Petepen »

OK this is my first post new to this site.
I recently decided to make up a small display of 000 Lone Star Diecast Treble 0 Trains. I remember them as a child late fifties early sixties.
I have started building up my collection from eBay some are "play worn" other parts new and still in there original boxes.
I have a couple of questions I would like the experts to help me with.
1. Is ooo and N gauge the same?
2. Can I use N gauge accessories like cardboard train sheds or N scale level crossings and place them in my display of Lone Star Treble 0 trains?
3. I have all metal tracks but I noticed on eBay they sell also plastic track, but told these two don't inter mix. Why bring out the new plastic one if they can't connect to each other? However I think the metal one being the original is best.
4. All of the Locos and rolling stock I have at the moment connect up by a "pin and slot" connection. Why is it I see on eBay some have like a "hook" connection, I wonder if it is USA made Lone Star items?
5. Is there a section on this site that deals just with people that collect Lone Star Treble 0 Trains?
6. Can you buy and sell items on this site?
7. Can you add photos to the posts?
Thanks hope I can get some answers to my questions.

British N gauge is equivalent to 1/148th scale.
000 gauge is equivalent to 1/152 scale.

This means the track for both systems is not compatible, but buildings and station furniture etc will be close enough to be able to mix together.

A couple of links for you...http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk ... trains.htm and...viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4157

Lone Star Loco's began as a simple push along train with metal track, later it was decided that the trains would be powered, it would need a more realistic track so the plastic track was introduced, and the coupling system which was by pin and eye on the metal trains was replaced by the hook type which could only be used with powered engines.

The whole Lone Star story ( trains, roadmasters, guns etc. ) is covered in Geoffrey Ambridge's book ' The Bumper Book of Lone Star ' - first published in 2002.
