Gold plated Corgi Ferrari Berlinetta 250 Le Mans

Post by Sebastian10 »

Has anyone got a spare £25,000 they could lend me ? (those pay day loans are so expensive!)

The item no. is 173019154293

Just be careful you don't click on the Buy it now button by accident!

I accidently saw this one yesterday.
Possibly an original one. But a little bit too expensive for me.

This guy has incredibly high prices. I saw a RR #273 for £300...
Unboxed playworn common variations for about £50...

Just checked the gold prices - an ounce of real gold is considerably less than £1000

So you could get about 26 Ounces of real gold instead - this might be easier to prove the provenance of!

Am I missing something - are there real people out there who can spend £25,000 on a single model? (plus postage if not within the UK!)

A few months ago I found a modern 1/18 scale Universal Hobbies Land Rover expedition type model for sale online - the original price was probably around £100 -150 as it was a limited edition of 1000.

However the new owner now wanted £1600! - though I suppose this is a bargain compared to the Ferrari at £25k

By comparison earlier this year I got a matchbox 39c Ford tractor with the large front hubs as part of a job lot - average cost per model 46p plus postage!

I am off now to do some frugal hunting!

I don't think any commercially produced model car can instantly be worth 25k. The value of this example can only be based on the amount of Gold content which if as said is just Gold plated, that should be deducted from the weight of the model and then valued, then the provenance added to come up with a more accurate valuation.

It is nice and yes a place could be found in my Home for it, but I would never be able to sneak it past my Bank manager at 25k!

Marcel van Cleemput's copy of the gold plated Ferrari 250 LM was auctioned off here in Germany back in 2000.
Most of the van Cleemput collection went under the hammer that day.
I still have the auction catalog, and the model was mixed into a lot with two other standard Corgi cars from the 60's.
I was a bidder at that time, but I did not get the lot (which sold for 240 DM, about 120 Euro).
Now I wish I had gone higher!! lol!!
