34c Volkswagen Camper
34c Volkswagen Camper
The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) has a curious entry as variation 34-4c, being the low-roof with full tow guide and both long and short door handles. It is completely unclear what this means.
Neither the AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) nor Stannard contain any variations not already listed by Nick.
Houghton has a handful of plausible crossover variations which would fit well into Nick's variation table:
Variation 34d-1: low roof, no tow guide, short handle, no ridge on RH door, thin windscreen pillars. If confirmed, this would slot into Nicks table as variation code 3.
Variation 34d-2: low roof, no tow guide, long handle, ridge on RH door, thin windscreen pillars. If confirmed, this would slot into Nicks table as variation code 5.
Variation 34d-6: low roof, raised bumper, short handle, no ridge on RH door, thick windscreen pillars. If confirmed, this would slot into Nicks table as variation code 8.
Variation 34d-9: low roof, full tow guide, short handle, no ridge on RH door, thin windscreen pillars. If confirmed, this would slot into Nicks table as variation code 10.
It should be noted that Houghton's table contains an error, codes 34d-4 and 34d-5 being identical.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.
It should be noted that various catalogues (such as Houghton and NAMC) split the high-roof and low-roof Camper into two separate models, thereby making the high-roof 34c and the low-roof 34d.

Re: 34c Volkswagen Camper
Is this just the difference between paired tooling, or is there a timeline associated with this variation?Diecast wrote:Just to remember, I have mentioned yet. There is one unlisted variation:

Re: 34c Volkswagen Camper
I think that it is the difference between paired tooling or a repaired die (because, in my opinion, the frequency of occurrence of the model is not 1:1).Idris wrote:Is this just the difference between paired tooling, or is there a timeline associated with this variation?Diecast wrote:Just to remember, I have mentioned yet. Re: 34c Volkswagen Camper
Hi Reg,
First impressions would be a prepro, early casting with an unpainted base and white interior.

Re: 34c Volkswagen Camper
Variation 1 is listed with no ridge on the right door (the door with the wide ‘pocket’).
I have one with no ridge on the LEFT door (the one with the narrow ‘pocket’).
In the photo below, it has the 34c1a tag. Does anyone else have this version? Any ideas?
Thank you
Kurt

Re: 34c Volkswagen Camper
By the coincidence, Kurt recently showed us an interesting unlisted variation with no ridge on the left door (on the model with high roof). I have received the same model with no ridge on the left door but with LOW ROOF!!!.
