13 Reverse wrecker.

Post by Moyboy »

I have a guy who contacted me and has a dilemma. He has the No. 13 wrecker in a blister ( the US type in red with the yellow chevron and Matchbox Series on it with 59cents price. ) the problem is the box has the reverse green cab picture on it. Does he open the blister to see if it is a genuine reverse model or did the normal yellow cab come in this box as well. If he does open it and its a normal model has he lost value on the box as sealed in a blister or as a rare box only.?
He has found it in his box of toys that have been stored for some 40 -50 years and card is a bit damaged in places but not to bad.

From your description Mick, it sounds as if the model is inside the box then mounted on the blister card, correct!

If yes, there is no way of knowing what version model is inside until the blister packaging is opened. This will establish a few points.

1, the whole package is now no longer a factory sealed rare item.
2, the version of model can be identified.
3, if the model inside the box is the reversed colour version (Green front and Yellow rear section), he has benefitted from opening the package because the value of the modlel with it's box (not the blister etc because of damage), clearly outways the value of not knowing what is inside.

Had the whole packaging been in mint condition, I would leave well alone, but because of the condition is as you say, it is worth opening and hope he is in for a treat!

I am pretty certain the normal coloured model (Yellow front and Green rear section), was put into the box showing reverse colour artwork.

Strong odds on that it will be the normal one as these boxes were used for a little while after the change, I would leave as is personally.

Easy....As a last resort a small long drill bit though the back and out the front should reveal on exit the green or yellow hue as long as you get it in the right place ie straight through the load deck. :o .seriously-Maybe an ex ray of some sort or a scan?.....I am sure the green should show up a darker shade under those circumcises....

a blister with just a box...most ive ever seen had the model sitting on top of the box in the blister...or a blister with no box and just the model
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Correct, the model should be sitting on top of the box in the blister. The box isn't rare as they made lots of them. All three of the wreckers I purchased new came in the reverse color model box.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Correct, the model should be sitting on top of the box in the blister.
Sounds like a photograph is required...

Got some pics from him. Just click on pic for larger pic. As can be seen no space for model on top. To me the blister does not look the right type for this card as it is smaller than the space allocated on the card ??

Could not place the design in my mind but now having seen the pictures (thank's Mick), there should be a model sitting on it's box inside the blister as mentioned above so for me what we are looking at is a Fake Pairing...
1, there is no support at the bottom so the whole package can support itself.
2, the corners should be rounded not sharply cut as shown.
3, damaged box inside the blister is not possible apart from some crushing when being handled by the retailer.

Get it open, but because of the above, it is now very unlikely to be the reverse colour version!
