Metallic Blue Bugatti T44 Pre-Production

Post by bobneumann »

Another model found in the Maryland collection. Bugatti T44 in metallic blue with black plastics. Casting is very rough, not production quality. I always thought the running boards were in stiff plastic but this model has very thin sheet plastic that can be bent as shown in the pic. Model has no Y-Number cast on baseplate and is glued together at the rivet location.

Metallic blue bodies are usually too short at the radiator end. There is a gap between the end of the bonnet and the rad. Preproduction base plate. The wheels are not what you usually find on these early examples.
I have these, and they are arranged in chronological order of preproduction.

The first run of the running board/radiator component was very flimsey, and had no locating lugs or reinforcing on the underside.

The body casting was amended when it was lengthened so the radiator was more securely located.
