So this is what happened: The pictures i shared earlier were from the ad site where i bought the models. So is did't realize the boom widens at the hinge. To shorten the boom would have looked strange so i decided to glue the parts. I sanded the old break surfaces and used Bison glue. It is strong enough (i hope). :D

In this "package deal" i bought another truck, without a crane. I thought it would be nice to complete this truck as well. By drilling out the rivet the crane will come loose and i can mount this on the craneless car with a small bolt and nut. I found a donor car with the crane:

But: the donor is in a pretty good shape. On the down side: it is painted partly. The craneless car is original.

The donor car looks better from beneath, the "subframe" looks like new. The craneless one is rusted and bent:

My donor has orignal tyres, old ones. Not remountable without breaking.

I will start with the removal of the extra paint and see what happens. I found some info here to work with. My plan is to keep the original paint as is/

Well... to be honest: the donor was also part of a package deal. ;) I can't tell the wife this, but they spread like rats.
