South African Dinky 194 Bentley

An eBay listing ended recently for a boxed South African Dinky 194 and fetched a four figure sum in Canadian $. From the pictures below I am quite surprised how rough the casting and poor the paint finish is. Also looking at the pictures of the underside it appears to show under the front wheel arches the British bronze colour finish, although this could be just the light in the photo.

I have never seen detailed pictures of a South African model previously and wondered if they are all finished to this standard and were Liverpool shells over painted to produce them? The colour seems to match the picture of the one in the model collector magazine I have, last picture although the tonneau cover does not.

I've got two of this sage green.
The underside of the body isn't painted. And yes the paint coat isn't as fine as the english version.

I can't see the rear rivets in your pictures. Do you have the ebay number to allow me to tell you what I think ?

Here is the baseplate in full.


There is Cream paint inside the body above the back axle area. The base rivets look like typical mid -60's finish.

That really is a rough looking casting.

The biggest minus against the model is the box, this is a UK box, but better the wrong box than no box at all to help protect it.

The pictures you show are a little large for 'postimage' default setting. You can either reduce the size first on the computer before using 'postimage' or use the resizing function on 'postimage' itself, but this may then resize all your pictures when you don't need to, so on the computer is best option.
