My dad was a volunteer fireman and in 1974 bought this '56 Ford ambulance for $200.00 when they were upgrading to a new ambulance. This was our family car (dad, mom and 5 kids) for 4+ years and it saw just about the entire East Coast of the US and parts of Canada. The only modification to this was the removal of the red light on top. The best part of all is we got the stretcher with it, which was excellent for riding down the road! Don't know how any of us didn't end up on a stretcher going to the hospital!!!

This was the family car when I was growing up, with different wheels of course. We used to refer to it as "The Big Blue Bomb". We sold it to someone in England. I always wondered how long it lasted.

Ford_a_30, nice Red Baron paint scheme.
Interestingly, the blue van I posted was US Ford's answer to the VW microbus. VW's vans really started catching on in the US in the early 60's so all the American big three auto makers came out with passenger vans to keep pace.
