3 Cream colored #62 Mercury Cougars on ebay

Post by Brad Pittiful »

so i saw three cream 62 cougars on ebay today

first one has red interior...correct glass and no pat # on base...the base looks like it was cleaned or maybe some scrubbing with steel wool

next 2 are both with ivory interior ...correct glass...but both have pat # on base

i thought all cream cougars were supposed to have no pat # on the base...the base rivets on the red and one cream look ok...but one cream has one that seems off but could be from the factory...also are any other ivory interiors that are in other models be swapped into the #62 cougar...i cant think of any...so an interior swap doesnt seem likely

any thoughts?

here are the links to the auctions

Hi Dan,
The cream cougar with red interior must be made up as the body is very late with body pins and inside ridge.
I have only seen cream cougars with pat no in the base apart from one that was a prepro on ebay.

The first one is fake, the window is scratched.
The second one is already for many years on ebay. In 2030 still on ebay.
The third one is new to me but from that country have my thoughts.

The problem with this model is that way back on the MCCH, the old Argentinian was faking many models and this was one of his favorites. His claim to fame was that he doubted there was a collection anywhere which didn't have one of his fakes in. Tinman (Joe) would know more about this than me but the amount of fakes was extensive at the time.
