SF 44 Refrigerator Truck yellow/turquoise

Post by SuperFast »

At the variation guide from Nick I can read that one example is known to exist as lunchtime special.
How many do exist in real.
Could this be real or could this be a fake?

In German Ebay (eBay.de)
item no: 172748082506

I have looked at the picture of the rivet area and without any picture enhancement there is a mark between the axle clip and the platform with the rivet. With some enhancement there is another mark on the very edge of this same rivet platform but could just be the sprue break-off mark. I am not a collector of this model so can not make a qualified comment but this is what I see in the ebay picture.

Having had a look at this seller's current offerings ( https://www.ebay.de/sch/lesney-matchbox ... 7675.l2562) and recent sales (https://www.ebay.de/sch/lesney-matchbox ... 6732.m1684), I just don't know what to make of him.
Is he selling off a collection? Is he salting his list of models for sale with the occasional keenly-priced (but not stupidly cheap) fakes?

I suspect that several of the models may not be what they portray themselves to be, possibly a Greek connection?

Exactly what sprung to mind with me Al. This seller had a 46a Mercedes 300SE in rare blue at approx 100 euros more than the BIN price of the yellow/turquoise 44a Refrigerator truck which, if genuine, would be many, many times more expensive.

Yes, that one caught my eye too. ridiculously cheap if genuine, ridiculously expensive if not.
I don't think this is a seller I'll be sharing any of my hard-earned readies with!

Yes, the 46A Mercedes was the reason for me to look at the other items from this seller. And then i was confused about the mega rare items. So I made my question here.
I am also stunned about the rare items he sold in the past.
The seagreen Lincoln gave me the rest, has anyone a genuine seagreen Lincoln?
In such a moment I could destroy my complete collection. In such a moment I have to think how many MB i bought from unknown sellers.
But I hope not all unknown sellers are black sheeps.

With any rare model the question of provenance should enter the discussion before proceeding to considering purchase. Ask any seller where he got a rare item from and how long he had had it for, then go from there. If a seller could not or would not answer the questions then it's time to walk away.

I did not look at this model in question but I think it is important to note that the base rivets on this one only secure the plastic grill to the base. The rivets that secure the container top to the base/cab are located under the cab roof and also secure the window plastic. They are really only visible if you remove the front axle clip/wheels and look inside the cab. I have never seen an example of the yellow/turquoise model I thought was genuine, but you really need to dissect the model a bit to know for sure so it's hard to judge this one on survey pictures. If there is any chipping of paint around the cab roof near the interface of the container and cab, I would definitely stay away. Its a similar dilemma with the 30A red crane with orange boom. You can only see the boom rivet by removing the rear axle clip.
