Found my all plastic Kenworth cab. Not sure how it found its way to the box of Hot Wheels :o

Actually only the middle rivet was not done. The other two had been crudely spot-melted, similar to Idris' sample. And its baseplate was the later (c) Matchbox Int'l Ltd 1983, different from Idris' Lesney 1981.

And one more all plastic Matchbox that I forgot to mention last time, the Y2 Bentley. Wonder why it was made plastic?

Made the Bentley in plastic to trial the model first as it was made outside of Lesney to cut costs. Apparently you can cast plastic in a metal mould but not the other way around. The first trial was to small so they enlarged it and seen in black or a multi coloured version. If you want to sell I would be interested in it.

So the base means the model is not a pre-production. What is it then?
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I think it puts the discussion back in the realm of cost cutting and/or low-price versions (c.f. GT series)

Not that I know of. As it was an outside company perhaps it was cheaper than running a metal one off. I'll ask Roger as he made them.

An interesting read none the less. This one is well outside my area of expertise so I'm just reading and trying to learn something while sitting in the balcony.

Good suggestion. I tried but it doesn't glow in the dark. ;)

I think these all-plastic models are well outside everyone's area of expertise!
