8e Ford Mustang
8e Ford Mustang
None of the NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition), the AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983), Stannard, or Leake ("Concise Catalogue of 75 Series Matchbox Toys by Lesney" (4th edition, reprinted 2006)) lists any variation not already catalogued by Nick, although it must be said that the NAMC listing is, once again, confused.
Houghton lists the white body/white interior version as variation 8e-8, details being gloss black base, chrome wheels with tyres, tow guide, recessed steering guide, raised patent no., and no trim.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

Re: 8e Ford Mustang
I would like to mention some unlisted variations. The very first variation is cream and with substantial larger exhaust rings. It looks like the rear wall has been thickened and the rings around the exhaust have almost disappeared

Some more hard researching from Antonin. The first picture seems to be showing the left model with either a dark Red interior or tinted glazing. Can you confirm which it is Antonin.

Quite strange is the variation 9. Relatively late model with pointed air vent.

More evidence of gradual cross-over production or even old stock casting found and put back into the production stream. This is the sort of variation that can screw up the 'Time-Lines' for us collectors as a model like this could be placed in at least Two positions and sometimes it is very difficult deciding where it is to be placed.Diecast wrote:Quite strange is the variation 9. Re: 8e Ford Mustang
Some great notes Antonin on this model, I do not have all my ones together but my early models with the large exhaust rings I have noted as off white in colour(not very good with colours).
Also with the early body casting the base steering diameter is slightly larger, it can be seen easier by checking where the diameter comes to on the base. This modification must be very early as I have only seen it on models with the large cast exhaust ring. There maybe some cross over models to look out for on this one. Looks like I do not have a code 9 but I do have listed your code 10 but with an unriveted window rivet but this could just be an error model where the riveting was missed out.
Keep up the good work.
