I told him he was an total chancer. He replied back saying that he didn't understand the term so I sent him the definition which is bang on the money describing this a-hole.

chancer
ˈtʃɑːnsə/
nounBRITISHinformal
a person who exploits any opportunity to further their own ends."

Do you know what, Alex? I think this guy was out of order for leaving the (overly damaging) neutral feedback without discussion but the real villains here are the postal service and eBay.

Traditional letter sending has been rapid decline since the advent of email and companies such as Royal Mail have had a leg kicked from underneath their business model. In order to prop up this ailing service, they hit the small packet market (i.e. eBay) hard. Was it 2012 that saw the a 65% increase in the price of sending a small parcel in the UK?

eBay then compunded the problem in 2013 when they expanded fees to include the postage element. Yes, I know there were some opportunistic sellers who loaded the cost of BIN items onto the postage to reduce end fees but they were in a clear minority.

As you've seen, a 99p sale can leave you out of pocket when you factor in eBay and PayPal fees.

My only advice is to be flexible on postage costs where possible. I suspect that this 'chancer' would have been more gracious had you offered a straight second class option for £2.85 (bargain!) in light of the nominal value of the item.

The annoying thing for me JP is that my postage costs were made clear in the listing and despite this he placed a bid. I see lots of models listed that I would consider bidding on but I always check the postal costs before doing so. He shouldn't have placed his bid if he considered my costs to high......which I hasten to say were not.

No way am I defending this moron's feedback, just saying they are out there and it happens regardless of whatever we do to make things transparent. I recently went above and beyond for one guy and he left me a negative anyway. Just saying it's not worth getting all bothered and upset over something we can't control.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

If you get negative or neutral feedback you can respond to it on the same page with your comments so they are seen immediately when the potential buyer sees the negative or neutral;

Example:

Negative: The model was not a real airplane

Response: As stated in the auction, this was a 1/72 scale model, not an actual vehicle.

(Sorry folks, this is a extreme example, but I know someone this actually happened to :D )
