Thank you Tinman. Great suggestion.

If the base swap is doable without cracking either casting, then I think I could live with knowing the base and axels and wheels are original and the top paint and decals are original. I think I'd look at it as being similar to doing a tire swap on plastic hubs.fixer wrote:Always an option but could you live knowingTinman wrote:Pop off the base and put it on a nicer modelMatchboxFreak wrote:

I'd be very un happy if the casting were to crack.

Portions of the original side decals are still in place under the paint. Some of the text is still legible. I would guess both brake fluid and nail polish remover would remove any remaining decals.fixer wrote:I've used both with similar results but not on over painted decals.......
There is a bit of paint on the wheels. I think It's been reported that brake fluid doesn't effect plastic wheels. Before I touch these, I will test other painted samples from my scrap yard box.
Happy hunting!

Re: New additions to Kurt's Garage
To expand on this a bit, I can live with a base swap (if the base can be swapped without drilling out the rivets or cracking either casting) but I understand others may have different standards. So I would / will label it so the base swap is clearly identified. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I will post photos of the updated model after any alterations is.MatchboxFreak wrote: If the base swap is doable without cracking either casting, then I think I could live with knowing the base and axels and wheels are original and the top paint and decals are original.
