I noticed a small difference in the wheels sizes between the metal and plastic wheels on these two models and I thought it may just be the conversion from imperial to metric because they're all listed as 9mm on the table. The metal wheels are a touch over 9mm but the plastic wheels on the cab and trailer are close to 8.5mm. Can anyone else confirm this?

You are right John, I have measured it and the dimension of the metal wheels vary between ø9,25 to ø9,34 and the (new) plastic wheels between ø8,75 to ø8,88. The measurement is very sensitive how it is measured.
I would like to mention that the plastic wheels Ø8,5 do not exist by Lesney. This myth was probably due to wrong measurement or conversion from inch to metric, or the measurement of the worn out wheels.

...neither of which makes any sense as a fractional Imperial measurement, even after allowance for shrinkage on cooling: 23/64" is 9.13 mm whilst 3/8" is 9.525 mm, and the reduction in diameter on cooling from the melting point of Mazak/Zamak (ca. 390 degC) to room temperature is about 0.09".
