RW 75b Red Ferrari

Just received this one, which I spotted in a group lot. I shall submit it here, to see if it passes the litmus test and turns out be a gem. It does appear to have one discolored wheel. I have purposely left the baseplate pics large for better viewing.

Gene on the face of it you appear to have found a gem. It certainly has the RW baseplate and the rivets looks sound mate. Could be a good'n mate!!!

I agree. It certainly looks good to me, and these red RW 75b Ferraris are surprisingly difficult to find.

Gene, this red Ferrari looks like a cracker! A beautiful model that I would be psyched to have in my collection. Congratulations!

Two questions:
1. in the photo, the glazing looks to be slightly smoked. Is this an optical illusion and is this typical for the red Ferraris?
2. The front of the air intake scoop in the center of the hood/bonnet looks to be painted silver or is it a chip in the paint?

You certainly have a great barrel to search for Matchboxes!

Hi Kurt,

I can't particularly see that the glazing looks 'smoked' so this is most likely due to the lighting in the photograph. I've certainly not known any red Ferraris to have anything but clear glass, including the RW crossovers.

With regard to the air intake scoop, that is a chip as you suggest. For some reason this is a weak point on these models. It may look slightly unusual because the light yellow undercoat is showing through.

I owned one of these a number of years ago and let it go when my focus shifted purely to early Superfast. I must admit I got a very good price for it but I do still have pangs of regret for not keeping it.

As JP mentioned.. The window is clear glass. In the hand it looks no different than my other 75b Models, most likely just picking up some reflections, in the photo.

The chip is indeed just that a chip. Apparently it occurs with some regularity on these red ones, as Nick makes mention of it in his description on the 75b page http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk ... /xx75b.htm



Am really thrilled to have acquired this model and having been able to spot it sitting there in a group lot, made it just that more sweet of a find.

Thank you for the clarifying photo. It does sound like the paint on the red version is very brittle.
None the less, finding this in a group lot must have been a thrill and the suspense waiting to see if anyone else spotted it equally exciting.

The Superfast red models suffer from the same issue, many have a small chip or two on the bonnet showing the undercoat.
