Favorite Regular Wheel number

Post by MatchboxFreak »

There are so many great regular wheel Matchboxes. The 22b Cresta, the 53a Aston Martin and the 75b Ferrari are particular favorites of mine, each one brilliant in their own right.

But what about the whole number series?

Although the 22c Pontiac GT is good (and a hint of greatness to come in the Superfaet era), the 22a Vauhall Cresta is a stodgy dog, in my opinion.
Simerlarly, 53b is a good model with interesting variations and new innovations (opening doors!), the 53c Ford Zodiac is relatively pedestrian and dull, in my opinion.
In the 75 series, the 'a' Thunderbird and 'b' Ferrari are both great designs with interesting and occasionally rare variations. It's just a little unfortunate the 75 series is so short (only an 'a' and 'b').

My vote for best Matchbox number is the 19 series: great designs, several variations, toys with personal memories.
19a MG midget
19b MG A
19c Aston Martin race car
19d Lotus race car

So, which Matchbox number do you like best?
(Must include each generation from 'a' until the Superfaet era. )
Happy hunting!

My vote for best Matchbox number is the 13 series: showing a progression of wreck trucks

13a Bedford
13b Bedford
13c Thames
13d Dodge

ALso because of the interest in the 13D Reverse colour Wreck Truck.
Don't know much re Superfast beyond the 13D Dodge

I agree with MatchboxFreak on the #75 as being one to consider. Two of my favorite cars but like he stated only a 2 car series. If you look at all the variations available then this is my choice but considering only the 2 models then I have to go with #27

#27A - Bedford Low Loader (small version)
#27B - Bedford Low Lowder (larger version)
#27C - Cadillac Sixty Special (my favorite car is the green version)
#27D - Mercedes 230SL

Honorable Mention: #19, #41, #57

I'm going to cheat ever so slightly (being Site Admin ought to come with at least a few privileges) and say:

79a Foden Sugar Container Truck.

66...

The Citroen was quite nice, the Harley is to my taste the most beautiful motorcycle of the range and the Greyhound bus was my favorite as a kid (and still today as I, for some obscur reason, keep on building a fleet of several of them no matter the condition!)

74 has also two of my favorites
53 for the very nice cars
55 & 59 for the police/fire chiefs

Thank you Rodger, Moyboy, Idris, John and Pat for sharing your favorites.

There are so many great models to choose from. Cars our parents had, cars we could dream about, commercial vehicles, emergency vehicles .....

I'd also like to add a vote for the 23c series with its various iterations of the Caravan Campers and especially the glazed 23c camper.
Happy hunting!
