Hey Nick, you make me really want to see photos of that Mustang. It sounds like a really neat car!nickjones wrote:Hi All.
I know I am fairly new to the Superfast range but I have to disagree with David on this one, I used to own a pre pro 8e Mustang in orange (37a colour) with solid BPW which dates it before the Mustang went into production, It had a white interior, The normal production Mustang had a red interior and it was not until the model was converted to Superfast that the white interior made its appearance. Also the 45 Corsair and I believe the 33c Miura started with white interiors so I would assume that Reg's model is an early pre pro, That is unless the casting timeline proves otherwise of course.
There are three reasons I do not think this is a prepro. 1) The model appears to have the front window ridge along the front base of the windshield. Only prepro models and a short run of early production models will lack this window ridge (maybe Reg can check his model to confirm it does have this ridge, but I think I can see it on the side view). 2) The white booms have a zig-zag pattern to them which is typical of later production booms. Early production booms are flatter inside and have small, raised circles. 3) The white color booms on prepro models is more translucent, but of course it is possible there are other colors. I'll post some pictures below for reference.
It is also worth noting, that the old catalogs of Mack and Leake do not include the one Reg pictured as a variation. I am skeptical of "newly" discovered models which can be seemlessly made by swapping plastic parts. It is my opinion this model was never made at the factory.
At the risk of getting off topic, you mentioned the late issue 33 Miura RW with WHITE interior. Are these truely WHITE and not IVORY like the later issue common gold SF model? I have never seen one of those late issue RW models in hand.
All the best,
David

Nick thanks for posting the link
David I know exactly what you mean it does have the raised edge to the screen and easily interchangeable parts do make things like this suspect I would be concerned if I had paid a premium for it but at 50p from a bootsale I'm not going to worry thanks for your opinion

Re: toe joe
It looks like you are probably right David,
The Miura I was talking about is the regular wheel pre pro with white interior.
Here's a pic of the pre pro Mustang, it's the only one I have due to a hard drive crash

Re: toe joe
That is a nice mustang Nick. My first car was a similar mustang fastback, so it is definitely a model close to my heart. I looked at that toe joe for sale on eBay. I also noticed the same seller has a 61 red wrecker in ted with "rare" green booms that have the early issue circles in the boom casting. i believe genuine examples of this model only had the cross-cross boom pattern. So i see two anachonistic, wreck trucks that are only rare because of their swappable plastics. Things that make you go "hmmmm...".

Re: toe joe
Hi David, thanks for showing us those Toe Joes side by side for comparision. I'm still studying all those boom/hook and body/baseplate combinations that appear on this interesting model. Your cautionary, detailed advice is much appreciated, as the fakes can be easy to miss sometimes.
The white pre-pro reminded me of a similar white Cable Truck pre-pro which I saw on Hardy's site awhile back. To me, "pre's" are a valuable insight into the decision-making processes at Lesney. They're fascinating, behind-the-scenes artifacts.. can't get enough of them!
Cheers,
Ken

It is a fake.
And the Zig Zag pattern on the boom is also pre-production? Sorry but I would not even touch this Toe Joe with yours. David is right it’s a badly executed fake of the late issue toy using an erroneous combination of parts.
Buy one sealed on a card from a good source or pay very little money for one that’s loose, that’s the only way you will not get your fingers burnt & stop the fakers ruining perfectly good old toys in the pursuit of profit.
