1A Road Roller - Curved Canopy

Post by tractorboy »

The last few years have seen a slowdown with purchases.

When I started collecting I remember the thrill as package after package arrived in the post, sometimes 4 - 5 @ week.
Gradually the buying tapered off with only the occasional purchase as I pursue those harder to get models, so pleased with this one.

Congratulations!
Finding and receiving a "harder to find" model is always exciting.
Well done!

Hi it is a hard model to find i have only seen a few & none of them have been mint. There was a nice one today at auction at Lacey Scott & Knight, to far for me to travel just for one. I have found that auction house to mis describe their boxes. I remember many years ago going up there as they had a very large collection of suppose E3 box only to find they were in very poor condition. Even spoke to the man who list them he ensured me they were all mint, but their mint & my mint are a mile apart. Pete.

Hi Pete,

Lacey Scott & Knight (if that's the one in Bury St Edmunds) rang a bell - went to one of their auctions about 3 years ago when I went back to UK to visit my Mum.
Got some nice items - nice to have the opportunity to inspect and handle models rather than just view on line.
We don't have many model auctions in NZ and competition is fierce.

Hi Rodger,

Nice model - funnily, I found my curved canopy 1a in Auckland while we were back for a couple of weeks when we lived in the UK. It was in one of those junk shops in Epsom/Greenlane that are mostly gone now. Mine is not as nice as yours by any stretch though, so well done!

Were there any in-room toy auctions in NZ at all last year? For the first time I can remember, there were none at all in 2016 in Wellington. When I started collecting there would be at least 3 or 4 a year here.

Like you, my flow of parcels containing toys has diminished in recent times - some of it down to not having so much disposable income for toys, but more recently, a lack of things I don't already have. Time to start upgrading some I suppose...

Cheers,
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

I can't recall any NZ auctions in the last 2/3 years (keep constant Google search going but no hits) and mostly mixed bag of toys rather than specifically die-cast.
Nice find in the junk shop - they're fast disappearing. Like you, I always call in for a firckle around those & Op shops but not as lucky as you.
Coupe of nice shops in Tirau that I always call into if going down south.

Nice one! I passed on one of those from Tinman a few years ago. It was a little beat up, and I thought at the time a little pricey! Wish I had bought it now! Haven't seen one since. :D

I used to have a gorgeous 1958 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 2 door hardtop. White, with a red roof, fender skirts, and a continental kit. My user name on several forums is 58oldsfan, and I figured it would be quite confusing to try to change it. Unfortunately, the car had to be sold back in 2011. I do have a Goldvarg diecast of it, and a couple of plastic models. My computer died last year and I lost my photos. My wife has a copy of them on hers, I will post a couple pics as soon as I can get them.
