Lone Star

Post by motorman »

The Bumper Book of LONE STAR Diecast Models and Toys 1948 - 88, by Geoffrey S. Ambridge

A Geesam-Fossicker Publication, Copyright 2002.

ISBN 0-9539058-0-2

Review: A great read in paperback, full of information on the background to the company forming and the history of the manufacturing through the years, with detailed sections on the different Diecast models and toys made by the company over the years including model lists and basic variation details. The book also contains photographic images of some of the Diecast and toys made along with images of staff and the factory itself. Only let down by the lack of colour images and more detailed variation tables.

This is no longer in print and they are rarely seen for sale, so if you see one don't hesitate.

I've tried e-mailed the address given on the book's order page asking for both a delivery and a read receipt. Not only have I received neither, I haven't received an undeliverable notification either. I don't know what to make of all that, other than that it doesn't look good!

Had similar results also tried several bookshops (old style ) non of which can find any. I think it's a private publication and only sold through Geoffrey's site

The book was compiled and produced by Geoffrey Ambridge himself and had it printed by Sumfield & Day Ltd in Essex during 2002.

A Geesam-Fossicker Publication with this number ISBN 0-9539058-0-2.

I tried to order a copy from Mr. Ambridge's website last year. Only to find out that he has passed away. Paypal refunded my money after a few weeks. Apparently, no one is managing the website, and I imagine it will eventually disappear. I am still in the market for a copy of that book !

looks like Robert Newson has taken over the upkeep of Geoffrey Ambridge's Lone Star site
http://www.robertnewson.co.uk/LoneStar/
it also looks like Geoffrey's books may be available again via the site
if so thank you Robert

I'll get full confirmation of this next time I see Robert. I'll also ask why he has not visited the forum for quite some time.
