Hi Rob.

In view of the responce those earlier comments received in your link, I am quite happy to accept these early 1980's castings. The one thing we need to be seen as is flexible and by allowing those I am sure it won't cause too much concern.

I would suggest however we modify the title posting with a note to make it clear why post-82 models have been included and it will only be limited to baseplates with the 'MADE IN ENGLAND' script, are we agreed on this.

Mmmmnnn, I am not sure I agree with this decision, 1982 is way to modern for my liking. Is the casting show now a free for all? What next Bulgarian, Hungarian, Macau????? God forbid!!!

No Alex, not going to go that far. I assume when the section was first devised there was no thought about the possibility some models would still exist with England bases or even boxes outside of the section's cut-off date. If the decision is to not include those few models, we will have to clean up and move some postings in the section linked by Rob and I know which will be the easier to do!

Ghosty,

The Modern Matchbox section has the following caption under its header "Non UK made Matchbox toys 1983 on"

This is the reason I have only been posting photos of "LESNEY - ENGLAND" 1982 models in this section.

In my opinion, I still consider 1982 to be part of the Superfast era.

All Matchbox castings with Macau, China, Thailand, Bulgaria and Hungary origins should be classified as Modern Matchbox.

Now, let me throw another wrench into this thread, where do we post Japan made Matchbox with Lesney bases manufactured in the late 70's?

Also, there are a handful of popular castings that have a Hong Kong - Lesney base, like the SF74 Orange Peel, should we post those here?

I am pretty new to this forum, but may I suggest that the range of this thread contain only models that have "LESNEY" cast into the base. So as to include all Lesney England, Japan, and Hong Kong?

Jason has made a very valid point and I need to somewhat backtrack on my previous comment. The Casting show has introduced by default a cut off date that excluded 1982 manufacture date. The modern matchbox section stipulates models manufactures after 1983 to cater for the foreign manufactured models. So therefore clearly there is a gap.

In light of that it seems reasonable therefore to have 1982 models feature in the casting show with one previso, Made in England' bases only please.

I should point out Jason that no models were actually manufactured in Japan. Matchbox models were exported direct from the factory in England and they were then sold in unique boxes for their home market in Japan. So with that in mind those particular models would still have a place in this Superfast Casting show being 'Made in England' as opposed to the modern matchbox section which caters for those passionate about Matchbox models manufactured elsewhere in the world.

I hope this makes things a bit clearer for every one.

Thank's Alex, very clear. We do need to now point this out at the start of the 'Superfast Casting Show' with a note or something to this effect.

I agree that only England base models should be in the casting show and that all other non-England bases should be elsewhere. When I started collecting my cut-off point was 1982 and England bases and last issue picture boxes. Also, as many of you know, quite a lot of hard to find England base models can also be found in the light blue window boxes.
