Baseplate images please!!!

Post by motorman »

I am getting sick and tired of sellers on eBay not showing the baseplate image of the models they are selling. i can maybe forgive the seller who has no knowledge of Matchbox but for sellers who specialise in Diecast it is unforgivable!. What is even more annoying is when a I then contact a seller asking for an image and they don't even have they courtesy to reply.
Their loss!!

I am equally frustrated by Sellers who have minimal pictures, but apparently investors really don't care about casting details. If the model is clean, we would like to really have a detailed look at all sides of it rather than be guessing it's code......I wish I could say it is their loss Motorman, but look at some of these Seller's high bids and sales. Who are these Buyers, certainly not collectors like you and I....kwakers :o

It seems foolish not to try to get that potential bidder to actually bid for the sake of a photograph or two. I do accept your point Dick that some collectors will just bid because they see a nice model for sale and pay no particular attention to the casting variations.

I too find it very annoying when sellers do not show the base-plate even when you ask them for a photo as said some just do not reply or say they cannot be bothered to send one.

There is a very well 1-75 model seller in US who never shows the base-plates :o :o

I always work on the basis that no reply means no bid: their loss. If you wait long enough and look hard enough, another example will eventually pop up for sale again.

Yep, just like the caravan with windows. As soon as Hardy bought one, he shortly had another for sale (sarcasm, it's a become a bad habit).
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

As you know 'Superfast' is my thing, and with several models coming with numerous colour variations on the baseplate it is important to know exactly what colour it is. Furthermore with some base colours, for example yellow, you get variations in the shade from dark to light which is one of the reasons I love collecting SF models. It is important therefore when a seller lists certain models that they include a snap of the base, e.g. the #8 Wildcat Dragster, #24 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, #41 Ford GT40, #45 Ford Group 6, #50 Kennel Truck, #66 Greyhound Bus, #69 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow convertible or the #70 Dodge Dragster, (to name a few), all of which come with multiple coloured baseplate.

Some of these baseplate colour variations are extremely hard to find, one particular one that springs to mind (and one that has thus far evaded me) is the SF#45 Ford Group 6 in metallic lime green, with number 45 label and dark yellow baseplate. I look at everyone of these that are listed and so many are listed without a base image, which is infuriating, and thereafter I need to go through the process of contacting the seller only to be ignored. Nightmare!

Can I take this opportunity to apologise to our American members for spelling the word 'colour' correctly!!!
