The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) appears to contain an error since the details of variation code 17-1H are identical to those of variation code 17-1I. (It should be noted that NAMC catalogues 17a and 17b as a single model coded 17-1.)
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) lists a plausible crossover as variation 17-2d: green, GPW, r/a, plain white lettered decal (see below).
Neither Stannard nor Houghton lists any variations not already catalogued by Nick.
U.K. Matchbox examined the model in vol. 1 no. 6 (Aug. '77) p90, and then again in vol. 6 no. 1 (Apr. '82) p22, with a follow-up in vol. 6 no. 2 (Jun. '82) p64. A variation, 17B-8, which is probably the same as AIM's variation code 17-2d was identified: green, GPW, d/h, r/a, no. 17 cast, plain white lettered decal, hand-applied trim. This crosses so many timelines, it is unclear where it would fit in Nick's variation table!

One question: Nick's listing has both 8.5 and 9 mm diameter MW. Do these actually reflect numbered and unnumbered wheels respectively?

The variation tables for this model show the mask spray trim only being applied to the grille.
This one of mine has the mask spray to the bumper as well. Attached are three views from different angles

The second 17b (image number 4) is more an item of interest as is one with the gold-silver mix hand applied trim which we have discussed with other models in the past.

Not sure if Antonin is around at present but back in October 2013 he showed two unlisted 17b
