Auction Query

Post by SuperFast »

Good morning all,

I've never seen a yellow SF 62B Mercury Dragster. Could this be real?

http://www.ebay.de/itm/2-MATCHBOX-SUPER ... SwA3dYQeXb

If the link doesn't work the item no. is 122252752900.

Regards

I think the baseplate has been removed as looking at the front of the model, the grille etc it is not fully fitting up to the bonnet. The side label does not match the label on the Lime Green model so these details lead me to think the model has been repainted.

Photograph added for posterity. (When posting queries like this, will Members please include a photograph from the listing? Otherwise, when Ebay eventually delete the listing, this results in the whole thread becoming meaningless.)

What I do notice is that the label on the yellow model has a yellow background, whilst that on the green model has a green background.

Looks like a model Nil Stil would make, for me this is a home made model.
Wheels look used compared to the paint, labels look like copies(very thick then viewed side on) and the rear rivet looks a bit strange.

Thank You very much for the comments and hints.
There is again no advice of repainting in the description.

I also think this model is suspect for the same reasons Ghosty mentioned.

Jason it would not surprise me if this was a Nik the Greek fake.

If you look carefully at the labels they appear to be not genuine ones, the exhausts on the labels of the 'yellow' version are coloured in whereas they are chrome on the standard version and always are chrome, also the overall colours are not right on the labels as well. I have never seen a 62b in this colour or labels like that.

I see that the auction ended prematurely. (I do hope VBD wasn't to blame! :D )

It was me :D
I wrote to this seller and he gladly inspected & confirmed that this Yellow Cougar was a custom model.he immediately ended the auction with thanks.
I have never been suspicious of this seller in the past as all his models were legitimate.Hes actually one of the cleanest on Ebay.
His responses below with attached pic of base rivet.

Hi, Thank you for your question. Both cars came from a large collection that I bought several months ago. I never thought about a possible repaint on the yellow car but after your question I took a close look at the rear rivet on both cars and the rear rivet on the yellow car looks different than the green one. Please check the picture and let me know what you think. If the yellow one is a repaint I will cancel the auction...Thanks again, Al

Thank you so much for the info, I will cancel the auction

It was a rather large collection of mostly regular wheels with a few superfast, I was more focused on the regular wheel models as this is what I collect. I will destroy the fake model tonight...Thanks again, Al

I wonder if he was true to his word and destroyed it?
