Re: Y 9 Showmans engine
The engine above is "Monarch of the Road", works No. 14934 and was built in 1917. It's a class TE2 engine and was designed for the Russian army. Originally designed to have a winding drum under the boiler for hauling 8 inch howitzer guns. With the collapse of the Tsarist regime, the contract was frustrated. 84 were built and lost in swamps where they were trapped by the German army. The remaining engines were built as Traction Engines, and this is one of them. It has been converted to a Showman's engine. The inspiration for the Y9 was "Supreme", works No. 20233 of 1934. It is a class B6 engine and was built as a Showman's Road Locomotive.
