Well, that's another piece of Lesney history gone.
The sign has been stolen.
By a thief
No doubt by a Lesney "collector" as it would not be of interest to anybody else.
If it's anybody reading this, then I hope you get no pleasure from "owning" it at all.
I hope you feel appropriate guilt every time you look at it.
As the age old saying goes: "Once a thief..."

Re: Lee conservancy road
I first went to Hackney when all the factories were there and running, years later the main plant went in Lee conservancy road.
The other one, Lesney products was still there, and working. I remember walking around it, and a few years later that too was gone along with the original street sign,
where it was is still evident in the side of the house at the junction of Eastway
All that was left was the brick moulding and the sign.

They have managed to survive the 22 years since the Lee Conservancy Road factory was demolished.
I took photo's of them a couple of years ago and spoke with Hackney Museum about them.
If anybody is tempted to remove the sign, please stop and think about this:
There is very little left of the Lesney legacy in London anymore, not much to show that Lesney were ever here, let alone what they achieved.
Even Leslie Smiths house has disappeared along with the factories.
So it's a good thing that there's this tiny piece of Lesney left behind which probably goes unnoticed by most passers-by, many of whom will have no idea about the massive factory that once occupied the length of Lee Conservancy Road and the incredible history of Lesney.
So. If you pass the wall and sign, give them a smile, as I do. But that's all.
Thank You
I was invited to Les Smith's home when researching for the First Forty Years book. It was a palatial residence in Green Lanes (I think that is the right name). I presume you are talking about an earlier residence.

Broadwalk, Winchmore Hill.
Mr Smiths home for many years until his passing.
Now replaced with two smaller houses occupied by notable residents.
A great pity, it was a beautiful house.
