Y-9 Fowler Showmans Engine-colors

Post by zBret »

This is the first Yesteryear model that I have acquired, really starting to like these :)
I am wondering about the color. In Nicks guide the colors are listed as dark maroon, light maroon, dark purple, red and bright red. I'm not sure exactly which color I have here, it does look a little purple, but perhaps is the dark maroon?
The model has a black base plate and a copper boiler cover.

The same picture displayed on different computers, ipads, smartphones and tablets etc could show all those colours!

I am sure our very own 'Yesteryear' expert, Bob Tutt can give us his opinion on this for you.

That's a good one to start with! I'm betting on dark maroon but I'm the color-blind guy so...

A 3/4 front shot would help, as there are features like the colour of the smoke box door that are generally associated with the different shades. The darker examples usually (but not always) have a copper smoke box door, the lighter maroon have gold ones. The black base insert is harder to find across all colours and can be gloss or matt, and fitted either way round!

Note smoke box door colours.

If you tried for all the possible permutations of variations on this great model, you could potentially end up with well over 100 of them!!

Thanks Bob. Interesting information.
Here is a 3/4 view of the model I have. The color of the model appears to lean towards the darker shade of the two models shown in your photos. The smoke box door is copper colored.

Over 100 variations !! oh dear.... well I guess if I pick up another one then, the odds are in my favor (for now) that it will be different from the first :D

Ghosty it is indeed one of those fiddly colors, that is difficult to capture, even in the hand it seems to change depending on how the light hits it.

It is a lovely model and very tempting to chase those 100+ versions. I have one somewhere myself, have to dig it out and see what colour it is.

Lovely line up Bob, looks like a miniature traction engine rally.
