Looks great, red with a grey base. Never seen a red one let alone with a grey base. Nice find and well spotted. J

The fact that there is a SF15 VW in this lot and we see a left over red body combined with a unplated baseplate is sufficient circulstantial evidence to suspect that this is a petrol station Gift set special which could have been made for G1 sets late 1972 or late 1973 after it has been deleted from the 1-75 series.Where there is 1 there maybe more - I would expect more could be found anywhere in Denmark or Northern Germany now we know to look for them!

thanks Zbret ;)

Mick you must go to the remote area around the city Herning. I read an article not so long ago that the local toy store in Herning closed this year in april. The store has been there for 42 years I think and there was some photos from the 70 era and here there was lots of matchbox. Also they said he was one of stores with the biggest selection of matchbox and Lego in a 200km radius. Many Germans came to do shopping here in the 70 and 80. So maybe my tanker came from a gift set from that shop or ??? we will never know. The owner of the store is still alive and still has a large collection of old toys.

If he is still alive you could ask him if he sold these G1 Tank station sets Christmases in the first half of the 1970s -not many shops here ever had giftsets but they would have come via the same wholesaler in DK or Germany i think!!

Thanks Nick and John

I looked at it the whole evening it is so strange to see this tanker in red. It would have made a lovly Esso tanker :-) And thanks for making a propper subject to this thread :-)

Mick I actually phoned the store 2 days before closing to ask if they had any matchbox signs, displays or models. The wife told me it had all bin sold to one guy what they had in the celler. So I did had an ekstra eye on all the places in DK you can sell. But nothing came up.
