Glad to hear you're alright Ian.
Just been watching the 6 o'clock news and been following during the day.
Some of the stories coming out are very emotional - have to feel for those who went through Christchurch and now experiencing this.
Really feel for those in Canterbury region and hope all of our forum members are OK.

Quakes seem to be migrating north from Culverden / Seddon. Quite a few 4+ north of Wellington so hopefully they stay that small and do not set off the whole north island East Coast fault system.

We've had a few big shakes last night in the region of 5.7 to 6 all originating in Seddon - which is only 80km from my place as the crow flies... getting sick of the aftershocks though - over 800 in 24 hours!

Those are big! Anything over a 4 definitely gets your attention.

And now the weather, flooding and liquefaction too.

I can sympathise, I was in Chch for Feb 22 2011 EQ, a single days business turned into 4 days in the same suit, experiencing thousands of aftershocks until I could hop a plane out.

The emotional strain is something hard to explain. Not knowing when the next one will arrive. Sleep deprivation, etc...

Given all the updates around structural damage of inner city buildings in Wellington, I've bizarrely found myself looking up again when I stop at intersections to see what could fall on me and which way I can run and we're 1,000 km's away. I'm still quake shy.....

Hopefully we do not get the years of aftershocks again.

I live in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. Tsunami evacuation early Monday morning when warning sirens after earthquake started. Then was getting ready to go into work which was reopening at 10 today after CBD in Wellington closed Monday when kids were sent home from school due to flooding risk from heavy rain. Water got close to coming in my back door which is much lower than most of the house. Friends garage not far from me was flooded. My daughter is asking if there will be a fire or tornado tomorrow.

A few pieces of collection fell of shelves and water splashed out of fish tank which is filled about ten cm from top so not hard to imagine power of shaking near Kiakoura. A reminder why I made most models side on display after Christchuch quakes.

All good in Whanganui, although we haven't had internet for a few days. Nothing to do with the quake.
A few models on the shelves needed gingerly pushing back before siding the cabinet doors fully open.

now we have the new Statistics Department building ( I think it is less than 10 years old) with floors that have collapsed on each other and today Molesworth St closed due to the discovery of a major fault in a 10 to 12 story building - the area was immediately evacuated and they won't even allow the Food Truck operator to move her vehicle for fear the building will collapse totally! "Extreme risk of collapse" is what the engineers are saying....

What next?? - Severe flooding on the only roads out of Wellington as it happens! Both major State Highways were closed for most of today as a result of the flooding caused by over 24 hours of rain... in some ways I'm glad I live ON TOP of a hill out of danger of floods and tsunami... I'm just hoping my hill doesn't slip DOWN like some on the other side of the valley have....
