My dad had a Dolomite when I was young and I remember he hated it and traded it in for an brown Austin Maxi. He kept the Maxi for about 5 years and even now says it was one of the best cars he has owned.

So did I, through B.S.M . I can't remember anything about it except it was bright yellow.

My very first actual sitting behind the wheel and operating controls was in my Dad's 'F' type Vauxhall Victor which progressed onto actual driving the car on private land where it used to be kept in a lock up garage.

I later drove a Vanden Plas Princess 'R' 4 Litre (yes, the one with a Rolls-Royce engine), across a garage forcourt where I used to work with intention of buying it as my first car...that was until I went and got an insurance quote, WOW! should have seen that coming, £1,500 as a way to put Teenagers off of buying powerful cars...

My official paid for driving lessons were with an Uncle in His 'HC' Vauxhall Viva and BSM's Nissan Bluebird and by Christ, it was clear then how good Japanese cars were and how much better they were going to get !

It was the Nissan I passed my test in and Dad gave me his 1800cc Vauxhall Magnum as my first car and that was the start of a long loving relationship with sporty Vauxhalls, but a Rolls-Royce was always at the back of my mind as an ultimate goal one Day...
